About Owen:
He is smart, really smart, and funny. The hard part for me, as his mom, is that a lot of people never get to see how amazing he is. He has Aspergers, a type of autism. This has created some obstacles for him, but he has begun the challenging process of learning to deal with it. It's rough to watch your child learn to "deal" with something, you really just want to fix it for them, protect them from it. But I guess your job as parents is to teach them to become part of society. It's so much harder for a child with autism.
Currently, he has therapies thru school, social development therapy (coping skills amd how to interact with peers), speech therapy (to teach him conversation skills and empathy), occupational therapy (to improve his upper body strenght and teach him to deal with his sensory issues). He has all of these therapies over the course of the school week in addition to his half day of Horizons (which is a program for gifted children). His teachers have made a big difference in his life.
Owen's whole life has been spent on one obsession or another, although, I didn't know it at the time. His current obsession is video games. He escaped from the real world into Mario & Sonic's Olympic Games, or Sims' City. (Other obsessions [which really started at birth] have been Baby Einstein, Winnie the Pooh, Cars, and Thomas the Train).
