"Parenthood"

I watched the new NBC, TV Show “Parenthood”. To be totally honest I only watched it because it starred Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls (whom I love). Within the first few minutes of the show I found out that there are a lot of stars that I love, including Craig T Nelson, from Coach.

The premise of the show – the life and dramas of Zeek Braverman (Craig T Nelson) and his wife, and their grown children and grandchildren. All the grown children are at different points in their lives; working mom, divorced mom (Lauren Graham), married parents, single guy… It’s a little like Brothers and Sisters without the family business and more about, well, “Parenthood”.

What makes the show worth mentioning here, one of the characters, Max, a little boy about Owens age, is suspected of having Aspergers. In the first episode you see he’s “different” then his peers, and his school meets with his parents and suggests an “evaluation”. The interaction Max has with others is very familiar to me; when he doesn’t respond to his peers greeting him (Owen completely); when Max goes from calm to enraged instantly (Owen completely). I found Max endearing, and the internal conflicts within the characters very similar to some of the own within my family.

Worth watching.
